Stella McCartney @ Opéra Garnier
AW 2010, Paris March 8th 2010

Backstage Paul with his daughter and girlfriend.

Difficult to get up in the morning even for Stella McCartney's Autumn-Winter fashion Collection in the beautiful Opéra Garnier.
No pics of models as Patrice missed the show , he was just on time to get a coffee backstage and take a few snaps of Paul.
I've been told Paul McCartney arrived yesterday night by Eurostar.
After the show he stayed a bit to talk to a few people answer a couple of interviws before making a quick exit by the side door.

Don't forget to have a look on ROCKERPARIS for our coverage of Paul McCartney's gig @ Paris Bercy in december 2009 with full setlist, videos and DOZENS of great pictures

Morning Star + Youth Less + Milos @ Espace B, Paris March6th 2010

Morning Star + Youth Less + Milos Unplugged
@ Espace B, Paris March 6th 2010
Morning Star

Saturday's night all right for folking ( I think I already did this one !) @ Espace B for Top of the Folks.
Morning Star with the Pop Choir feat. Jesse D Vernon is the first artist to play.
Pop-Folk songs with harmony vocals feat. our good friend Sionnan-red-pants on backing vocals, a journey back into the 60's.
Just one guitar, some vocals a bit of flute ( can't do no harm).
Really cool set

Youth Less

French folk young lady Youth Less is next, acoustic guitar in hand, her favorite singer is Emiliana Torrini so you can guess that she's not playing Heavy metal. If you like Suzanne Vega or Cat Power you'll be charmed by this young lady.

Milos Unplugged

Another french band from bordeaux Milos unplugged, lots of different influences Folk, South American, rock.
The trumpet is adding something extra,a trip to a spaghetti western in Mexico with Ennio Morricone's sountrack in the background.
It makes me wanna listen to Freddie hubbard's ( a jazz trumpetist) masterpiece "a soul Experiment".

The Last Morning soundtrack closed the Top of the Folks evening we saw a couple of songs, they seem quite good less folk more pop à la Grandaddy.

At Rockerparis we don't really have the time to go to small gigs like this but i'm very surprised by the musicianship of these bands compare to... the Babyrockers which , when you think of it are really shit for most of'em.

Next gigs:
Vera Gogh @ Disquaires ( Bastille ) on sunday
March 8th :
Adam green @ Alhambra
Fanfarlo @ Album de la semaine
Peter Doherty @ Joseph ( private gig)
March 9th:
Elvis revue @ Zénith
March 10th:
Vera Gogh @ Pop'In
Marie Flore & La Fiancée @ Fleche d' Or
march 15th:
Johnny Winter @ Bobino

Gossip showcase for NRJ sessions with iTunes @ Fleche d'Or, Paris March 5th 2010

NRJ Sessions with iTunes
Gossip @ Fleche d'Or, Paris March 5th 2010

La Fleche d' Or is welcoming Gossip for a private, invit' only show just a few weeks after Peter Doherty played the very same place.
This time it's not chaos outside La Fleche d' Or in fact the security is very loose and they do not check at all after you pass the girls doing the guest list so I could have get in with a coach full of drunken poles nobody would have noticed.
There is an experimental support band, we didn't really get their name ( "10LE6C"), lots of percussions and a very sexy Asiatic female on vocals & screams. ( No Pics sorry, Patrice was at the bar)
Can't really say that they've played songs, enjoyable though.
Around 9:45 PM Gossip took the tiny stage, well what can I say ? they've played in Paris so often for the last year , they're constantly touring.
It's probably the 4th time I'm seeing them in less than a year in Paris.
Too bad from where I was I couldn't see the cute drummer, the bass player has a really funny face and Beth is wild as usual.
They've incorporated portions of Michael Jackson's songs in between ( with Talking Head's "Psycho killer").
Short set, no more than 45 min.
They will play the Zénith ( 6000 capacity) for two shows in May, the first one is already SOLD-OUT.

The Soft Pack & The Parisians @ Nouveau Casino , Paris Feb 4th 2010

The Soft Pack + The Parisians @
Nouveau Casino, Paris feb 4th 2010

The Parisians

Thursday evening, I guess that froggies prefer to stay home as the club is far from beeing packed and the guest list is as long as Ron Jeremy's dick.
It looks like french opening act The Parisians didn't come with their possee.
Is the "Baby Rocker" movement already dead & cold ?
Some good and some bad moments for a band heavily influenced by the Stooges ( or Marky Ramone for the drummer) they even play the intro to "Michelle" from G'N R.

Then we have The Soft Pack from California, it's a time machine for the 60's Garage rock, short songs with typical 60's guitar sound.
Funny they have a drummer who's standing up to play his drums like Slim Jim Phantom from The Stray Cats
Short set as they barely play for an hour with no encore ?!?

Setlist

Panik Angelik @ "Abtract party" @ Truskel bar in Paris
March 2nd 2010
Kids wanna rock

Lo Phi Phil is da man for these "Abstract" gigs @ Truskel with baby rockers, as we call them, coming from different parts of France to play in Paris.
Tonight we have Panik Angelik.
Are they gonna storm Paris ?
Not really but it's always interesting to see kids playing Rock'n roll , actually they are quite good too bad they're singing in french ( with funny lyrics about "girls getting wet", Hum Those kids ! )

Lots of (good looking)female in the audience , I'm sure the band had a good time afterwards.
Let's not forget DJ Mime mixing some "interesting" 80's new wave music ?!? feat early Depeche mode , Visage...

the audience & DJ Mime is getting ready

Tomorrow's gig is Vera Gogh playing Le Vieux Leon bar ( Rue de la grande Truanderie 75001).

Fargo record store in Paris
March 2nd 2010

Le Marais district

It's a day off for us here @ Rockerparis , well in fact for Patrice Guino, our photographer.
So what did you do today you lazy bastard ?

First I went to the Izis exhibition @ Hotel de Ville de Paris ( free entrance ) for once not too many people queueing outside.
Lots of great Pics from London , Paris, Chagall at work ...

Then time to move to the new record store opened by Fargo records , we walk through the Marais ( see Pics below) to the store ( 42 rue de La Folie Mericourt 11e M° Oberkampf ) which is 3 min walk from the famous Bataclan theatre.
Before that we bumped into a Toy store with thousands of different dolls from Cartoons, movies , musicians , tv series including some Beatles ( see below ) the 4 of them for 500 Euros.
Nice and quiet street for the Fargo store selling the Fargo catalogue ( Alela Diane , Joseph Arthur,Great Lake swimmers,Neal casal... ) + everything related to Rock & the Americana.

CDs, vynils, Boxsets, Books...

Not only a record store , you can buy books , dvds, vinyls, magazines, T-shirts, Lted edition posters, very expensive paintings ( 300 euros ) and some reaaaally cool Mexican shit ( Pics below) at a fair price.

Reaaally cool Mexican Rock frames

The guys from Fargo are music fanatics, check their store or website for some cool blues , folk , rock stuff.

Marina & the Diamonds @ L' Album de la Semaine Paris, March 1st 2010

Marina & the Diamonds @ L' Album de la semaine Canal+
Paris March 1st 2010

setlist

Sometimes when we go to this famous Canal+ tv show where bands are playing a short set of their new album (& a few oldies ) , when it's a new band we don't know, we don't listen to it before to get a surprise.
With Marina & the Diamonds, we've been told it was 80's orientated but we've never thought it would be that shitty.
I mean this is the worst of the 80's; keyboards, no guitars, the singer Marina is really good looking and has a nice voice with Kate Bush's tone of voice ( or Klaus Nomi) but the music sucks so bad.
Even Marina's stage moves are typical from those 80's bands that we hated so much back then.
This band looks like a band that was put together by a lousy record cie trying to surf on the 80's revival.
Bollocks.
I's unbelievable that she's topping the NME charts for the last 4 weeks, maybe they took too much ecstasy when they were clubbing in Madchester a few years ago.

Next week's recording @ L' Album de la Semaine (click to book) is Fanfarlo

Gossip will play a private show for french radio NRJ @ divan du Monde on March 5th, Invit only strangely enough they're selling tickets for the aftershow party.

See ya tomorrow @ Truskel with DJ Mime mixing @10PM

Olympic Studios sold by EMI

Another sad day for Music, EMI has sold the famous Olympic studios in Barnes, London.
EMi sold it to a businessman for 3.5 M pounds, who is considering a number of options for the site including a cinema (!?!)
Many famous artists recorded there ( Beatles , Led Zep , Hendrix, DeepPurple, Queen , Thin Lizzy, Oasis , Madonna Bjork... in fact everybody )
The Rolling Stones recorded 5 or 6 albums there.
The studio already closed its door for the last time on Jan 30th 2009.
U2
beeing the last band to have recorded there with "No line on the horizon".

Everybody tried to save Abbey Road studios but Olympic is as important to music.
Too bad !!!
