Van Dongen exhibition @ Musée d' Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, March 24 2011

Van Dongen "Fauve Anarchiste et Mondain"
Exhibition @ Musée d'Art Moderne de la ville de Paris

Kindly invited to the Vanishing-day for this exhibition, I 'm not really familiar with this painter from Holland (1877-1968) who spend most of his life in Paris.
Really incredible this guy painted with VERY different styles all along his career, so don't get fooled by the picture above it doesn't represent AT ALL his paintings.
It's like seeing the exhibition of 6 different painters.
It's really worth going there, it took us a bit more than 90 min.
Check is paintings HERE

Marianne faithfull feat. Wayne Kramer @ Théatre du Chatelet
Paris, March 23 2011

Yesterday was so good that we decided to come back
Basically the same show as yesterday, she may have changed the setlist a bit as she didn't perform "No Reason" ( from the new album) tonight, she did it yesterday.
The audience was more hot, she noticed it saying "You are much more better than yesterday" True.
As you can see the first part of the gig has songs from her last 3 albums then she's playing the hits
"Sister Morphine" (here on video) and "Broken English" were extended version with great guitar soli from Wayne & Doug.
As she has a sore throat (so she said) she didn't come back to perform the a cappela song she did yesterday "Love is teasing" from the Chieftains.

SETLIST:
1) Horses and High Heels
2) Why did we have to part
3) Back in Baby's arms
4) The Stations (tbc)

Marianne Faithfull Feat. Wayne Kramer @ Théatre du Chatelet
Paris , March 22 2011
Wayne Kramer from the MC5 on guitar (on the far left)

Marianne Faithfull is back in Paris for two shows at the posh Théatre du Chatelet, one of the most beautiful theatre in Paris. She's promoting her latest album Horses & High Heels.
We've already been here a few times including a great intimate concert with MUSE in Sept 2009.
It's sold-out tonight even though there are still a few empty seats, it's an early start as she's getting on stage at 08:05 pm.
When we met Marianne @ Fnac Montparnasse in February she told us that Wayne Kramer, guitar player from The MC5, would be there. Cool he's here tonight.

No big production, just Marianne and her 5 musicians, she's center stage with a shiny white shirt, lyrics by her side, she won't look at it fo the most famous songs.
She played a few new songs including the one composed by French singer Laurent Voulzy, I didn't see him in the audience but there was Jane Birkin and the French Minister for the Culture frederic mitterrand , who gave her a medal after the show in the dressing rooms.
The concert started smoothly with the atmosphere building up slowly.
Her voice is really rock, posh people woke up when she played her most famous songs (Working Class hero, As Tears go by, Broken English...) even though no one clapped when she started playing Sister Morphine. Maybe they've never heard the Rolling Stones.
Sound is perfect, not too loud, Wayne Kramer is providing great guitar licks doing most of the soli tonight.
The gig was more rock than last time for her shows @ Cité de la Musique (review of second show is Here) for the Easy Come Easy Go Tour 2009.
The set ended with her cover of a Tom Waits' song before she came back with only Doug Pettibone on guitar.
We had an extra song a cappela "Love is teasing" (click for video) by the Chieftains.

Anita Pallenberg (far right)

Great 1h50 min show we're going back tomorrow night.
There was a aftershow party in the dressing room where the Minister for the french Culture gave her a medal (Commandeur dans l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres).

Wayne kramer & friend

Chew Lips @ Fleche d'Or, Paris March 21 2011

Chew Lips @ Fleche d'Or
Paris March 21 2011 10:30 pm

After being @ Canal+'s Album de la Semaine to see Jazz Hip-Hop Australian band True Live, we went to see Electro-Pop English band Chew Lips @ Fleche d'Or.
One girl on drums, two guys on bass and electronic machine plus a Debbie Harry lookalike on vocals
Don't know if because it's monday but the club is empty, 100 people, nor more, mostly girls.
Well the music's ok not really the kind of stuff we're listening to @ Rockerparis, very dance and pop but enjoyable.

Radiohead @ Olympia, Paris March 28 2011 ???

Hum Hum ! Maybe or... not at all !!!
That is the rumour. We don't know anything more and honestly we don't care considering the shit that they're doing for the last 10 years.
Fuck that electronic shit and get the guitars back !

If it's on the 28 we won't go as we have another gig that night.

True Live @ L'Album de la semaine Canal+, Paris March 21 2011

True Live @ L'Album de la Semaine Canal+,
Paris March 21 2011 8:30pm

Soul Jazz Hip-Hop Australian band True Live is promoting their brand new album before visiting France with many gigs in March-April.
One drummer, 2 cellos, one violin, piano and singer, strange instruments to play Hip Hop, just imagine N*E*R*D ( the early one before they started doing shit) playing with classical instruments and you'll get a taste of what they're playing.
Unusual but very interesting.
After listening to the songs you'd expect some black dudes , no they're white in their 30's and looking like record company executives trying to dress cool.
Not sure why the record Cie picked up "Something to be" as single as it's far from being the best song ("Damn Right"'s better and has a real Hook)

Correction : Miles Kane from the Rascals and last Shadow Puppets will play L'Album de la Semaine on march 28.

Peter Doherty @ Le Tigre, Paris March 19 2011

Peter Doherty @ Le Tigre
Paris March 19 2011 00:35am ( March 20)
After attending French Punk-Rock Les Wampas's gig @ Cité de la Musique we're making our way to the Tigre club between Opéra and Palais Royal to attend Peter Doherty's "secret" show there. It wasn't so secret as it was everywhere on facebook on saturday morning.
We arrived there around midnight,Pete is having a smoke outside without being harrassed, as it's saturday night there are a few people outside : some of them having a smoke others trying to get in but it's not madness.
It's a 70 % female audience, all very pretty and in their early 20's.
We could get in very easily (we're Rockerparis for Fuck's sake;-) but some people were turned down ( no use beeing aggresive at the door). We had to pay 10 euros to get in, it was free for the regular customer.
This private club is pretty small (200 capacity) and all in red from carpet to paper wall. It's packed but not crammed.
Some (most of) of the girls inside are stupid arrogant bitches that should be kidnapped and sold as prostitutes to some eastern european countries.
Hard to believe the attitude of some of these bitches (Just ask Oliver Peel) when the owner of the place and the sexy "bouncer" girl are pretty cool and friendly.
Anyway we're here for the gig.
We have to endure a support band consisting of two guys on guitar, one dressed as if he was Brian Jones from the Stones, unfortunately without his skills or talent.Songs are lame and they should sing in tune.
It's just past half midnight when Peter Doherty's getting on the tiny stage with his acoustic guitar. We're at the front and for once nobody's pushing, people are here to see Peter but there are no real fans.
You can see that he's completely intoxicated, he's playing with a young French drummer (??!?).
The beginning of the gig is pretty good though shambolic with "Can't stop me now" and "Bonjour Tristesse" but then things are turning ugly.
Peter is completely out of it, can't remember how many times the microphone is falling down on the floor or how many times the guitar is unplugged and re-plugged.The drummer doesn't help ( even if he tried his best). Hard to follow Peter when he's changing rythm every 30 seconds.
Peter's not playing songs he's more jamming than anything else ("There she goes" was play), we have The Beatles' "She loves you" as well.

Being intoxicated is one thing but having some French Baby Rockers playing with him is another. A "singer" is doing one , the guy is fucking useless he seems more preoccupied by the way his hair is comb than anything else. Then we have a couple of other guys helping out on guitars.Maybe from the first support band
They are from the french rock scene, they have the look and the arrogant attitude but the problem it that they can't fucking play. Which is the complete opposite of English musicians: when they have the skills then they do act as proper rock stars.
Really don't know why Peter is hanging out with these guys.

Drugs are kicking in

This gig is a complete mess, Peter's rapping for a song than making strange noises by scratching his microphone on his guitar strings for another and so on...
The only thing you can say after this gig is "Kids, stay away from drugs".
After 15-16 songs (?) The Stooges' "I wanna be your dog" is played and in the middle of it Peter stage-dives in the audience a couple of times to get back to his dressing room.
60 min show and probably the worst show I have even seen Peter doing and believe me we've seen him many times solo or with The Babyshambles @ Rockerparis.

After chaos !

We made a quick exit to go home, we met Oliver Peel that was late once again (check his review, pics are coming shortly)
Much more Pictures from the gig HERE.
If you wanne see how shitty it was there are two videos from the end of the gig HERE (???) & HERE ( I wanna be your dog & Stage Divin')

Les Wampas + La Pompe Moderne @ Cité de la Musique, Paris March 19 2011 7:00pm

Les Wampas + La Pompe Moderne @ Cité de la Musique
Paris March 19 2011

La Pompe Moderne

The Cité de la Musique is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the death of French chansonnier Georges Brassens with an exhibition and a few concerts.
Tonight it's with Frencg Punk-Rock band Wampas & cover band La Pompe Moderne opening.
La Pompe Moderne is doing cover of famous international songs but Georges Brassens's style which is very distinctive as he was playing only with an acoustic guitar and had a very special way of singing his songs.
It could be funny, and it is, when they're doing covers of Mickael Jackson or Rage Against The Machine but after 20 min it is starting getting boring.

Then we have the Wampas, first time I see people pogoing @ Cité de la Musique.
They have very dedicated fans so they invit them on stage all the time to sing backing vocals or even lead vocals. Very friendly atmosphere as everybody know eachother.
They're playing the usual setlist.
This evening of concerts is called " We don't like Georges Brassens" and the singer is clearly saying, several times, that they don't care about the guy they're only here for the money and that they couldn't refuse the 20 000 euros they've been payed.
The show is really rock with lots of stage-diving from the audience and from the singer who's always singing a couple of songs in the pit and on people's shoulders.
At the end, it's a tradition, all the girls are invited on stage (see pics below) some of them very cute.
Good 80 min show
But it's time to go to the Tigre club in Paris to attend Peter Doherty's secret show.
